Life with Duane

She survived the surgery and was still in the hospital as of yesterday. She's very fiesty and demands that I visit her. I've had a cold so I didn't go. My husband went after work yesterday and took her some flowers. We'll probably visit her Wednesday on his day off. She had him go to her house and get her walker out of storage so it would be ready when she got home.

Our elderly friend is to have surgery Tuesday. We visited her last week and did chores and ran errands. She'll be 80 this year and is not well. She asked me to come every Saturday and help her. She would pay my expenses plus a little more. I told her I would do it without pay. I got sick Thursday and knew I couldn't go this weekend. So my husband went to her house after work Friday. He carried out trash, washed dishes and listened to her. She is frightened and lonely. He prayed with her before he left. She doesn't go to church but is a member of one a few blocks away. They have been notified. She has some friends that are older than her that have been taking her to doctor appointments. Her daughter will take her to the hospital Tuesday. I don't think I'll be well enough to visit her at the hospital next week. I don't think she'll ever go home again. She'll probably be in a nursing home.

Last month we went to our optometrist to get our new glasses. While there we asked about a place to get cookies and coffee. They recommended the Kalico Kitchen just down the street. It was a very nice place. She had Valentine baskets on display for the coming holiday. He saw one with a purple frog and wanted it NOW before someone else bought the frog. She wasn't busy so she took out the old display cookies and put in fresh, oatmeal-raisin. There was also a heart shaped box of candy. While we waited we ate 3 cookies and drank coffee. The cookies are about 6 inches across. One is called Cloud Nine. My favorite was the pumpkin cookie. We brought home 3 more besides the one in the Valentine basket. He's soooo sweet.
