Grass fire

I took my daughter to work Friday at 4:00 p.m. and came straight home. It's about 12 miles from Wal-Mart. When I got to the house, rain began falling. Soon thunder cracked really loud. The wind picked up and rain just poured for an hour. Thunder cracked a few more times. It let up about 6:00. At 6:30 I left for a Sunday School party in town. Just as I got to the high point on our long driveway I saw this large burned area, about 2500 square feet, on the south side of the driveway. I got out and looked closer. It was shocking. The grass was 3 feet+ tall. Now that spot was totally flat. I guess that first thunder crack was lightening hitting the ground and starting a fire in that dry grass. The rain put it out. I remember faintly smelling smoke not long after the rain started pouring. I always look out the windows occasionly to see how hard the rain is falling. I never saw smoke, probably couldn't have because of the trees and the house sits lower than that spot. This incident has convinced him to buy a tractor/brushhog to keep the grass and brush short.
